Re-Opening (For real this time!) We look forward to welcoming you back!!

We sincerely hope all our past and future guests are remaining safe during these uncertain times! The past 8 months have certainly changed the way we have been living, interacting and even working.  The only thing that hasn't changed is Lucy manages to get into everything all the time!

As most of you remember, we managed to survive the slowdown of tourism in 2018 when Kilauea erupted in Leilani Estates.  Just as we were starting to figure out what the “new normal” would look like COVID- 19 erupted around the world.  Just like many of our friends, colleagues, and small businesses around our island we have struggled to make it this far, but here we are still standing and ready to welcome back visitors, although with social distancing in mind for the protection of everyone.

Our official reopening date will be November 2, 2020. We plan to open slowly, with only one room for now, which will be Lehua Ranch Retreat.  This our 2 bedroom bungalow which is cozy enough for a family of 6 or spacious enough for a couple. If you don’t see availability for this room on our website or through or 3rd party partners (Expedia, Hotels.com, Orbitz etc…) then it isn’t available. We will eventually reopen our other rooms as time goes on, but we don’t have a specific time frame in mind yet.

As you may know the state of Hawaii is still technically requiring a 14 day quarantine for out of state visitors and between outer islands, however, the state's Pre-Travel Testing Program now allows individuals to proceed without having to self-quarantine. The program requires passengers five and older to take a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified laboratory within 72 hours from the final leg of departure and produce a negative result. Only test results from trusted testing partners approved by the Hawaii Department of Health are being accepted. A trained professional must observe all tests. Registration instructions and costs can be found at the partners’ websites. The list of approved trusted testing partners is available at HawaiiCovid19.comIn addition to the pre-travel test, a county may require travelers five and older to obtain a subsequent test after arrival. This post-arrival test will be administered by the county. Be sure to check with the individual county websites for the latest information.

There are still rules and restrictions placed on vacation rentals and Bed & Breakfasts across the state which do not permit us to allow guests to quarantine at our establishments.  Please don't be offended if we ask to see the results of your parties negative COVID tests prior to or upon arrival.  We could be fined or shut down if we permit guests to stay who haven't completed the Pre-Travel Testing Program. Lucy and the gang would be devastated if they couldn't interact with guests again!

We haven't been sitting idly by the last several months, we have been preparing all the ways we can provide the same friendly experience, with wealth of knowledge and yummy breakfasts you have learned to expect!

The great thing about VAR is our property really is made for social distancing already!  Two of our rooms are in completely stand-alone buildings, with the third taking up the ground floor of the main house.  All rooms have private entrances and private en-suite baths.

Self -check in will be the new norm for our guests, which also means you no longer have a check in window in which you have to meet us for the first time. We will be communicating with you via email approximately 7 days prior to your arrival regarding driving directions and check in instructions for your specific room. We will also email you your registration form to complete prior to arrival.

We will still be offering breakfast, but our morning breakfast menu will be delivered either the night before or morning of (which ever you prefer) directly to your room for you to prepare at your leisure.  We will send your first menu with your check in instructions and ask you to fill out for your first mornings breakfast.  We are now including toaster ovens in addition to microwaves, tea kettles and coffee pots in all our rooms.  We have also added basic satellite TV for each room as we will not currently allow guests into the main house to check out our movie library

We have been busy building firepits around the property for guests to enjoy the outdoors in the late afternoon/evenings after exploring the surrounding areas.  There are several to choose from and we provide all the kindling and wood to get you started.  If you run out, look around the property is full of wood and kindling all provided by mother nature!

We won't require masks when you are within the confines of the property,  but do ask you respect social distancing parameters if you come across us or additional guests.  The State of Hawaii currently requires masks when out in public areas so please keep that in mind. Should have a mask with you when in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, but don't need to have it on when you are hiking as long as social distancing can be maintained.  Randy and I have been taking advantage of how empty the park is and how many new trails and roads have been reopned!

As always, Lucy and the gang will be roaming the property and available for guests to feed and interact with.  You just need to arrange with us for hay/food and you can do the rest!

We look forward to welcoming you back and providing the service we are known for, even if it is in a different capacity than before!  Aloha!  Theresa & Randy
